Speed Networking MDI Day - Magaliesburg Agriculture and Tourism Business Opportunities

Venue: Magaliesburg Secondary School 24 August 2018.

  • 10:00 to 12:00
  • 50 to 60 people.
  • Attendees will be able to register online for the event or just show up at the door.
  • Banks, sponsors and other organizations will receive a 5 to 10 minute opportunity between rounds to address the whole event.
  • Organisation is in progress in conjunction with Nedbank, an insurance institution other interested parties and the Headmaster.

  • 80 to 100 people.
  • Attendees will be able to register online for the event or just show up at the door.
  • We will give banks, sponsors and other organizations 5 to 10 minute opportunities between rounds to address the whole event.
  • Organisation is in progress with various organisations indicating their interest still to confirm how they are going to help.

Event goals

  1. Teach the local community what investors would like to hear
  2. Create an event where local business people and entrepreneurs can meet each other and share business opportunities and ideas
  3. Create investors’ awareness of potential business opportunities in Magaliesburg
  4. Inform/Educate local entrepreneurs about business financing through banks
  5. Look for tourism opportunities in the area
  6. Investigate agricultural opportunities in the area
  7. Link local businesses with emerging community entrepreneurs
  8. Link community entrepreneurs with government funding opportunities

Event guidelines

  1. 5 min. Networking opportunities before you have to swap to the next person
  2. Only people actively networking at the station may be speaking to each other
  3. You must move to the next table or person
  4. 2 min. Between networking
  5. Note Taking is encouraged
  6. Community members need to prepare for the event
  7. You must have a business cards to swop
  8. You do not need to be a business
  9. Bystanders may not stand near or behind tables while networking is in progress
  10. Be Respectful
  11. Know your 15 second introduction
  12. Be aware of your body language
  13. Encourage and be helpful
  14. Follow up the contacts you have received during the meeting
  15. Only official representatives of organisations may represent organisations

General Aims

    • Be an event where local business people and entrepreneurs can meet each other and share business opportunities and ideas
    • Create investors’ awareness of potential business opportunities in Magaliesburg
    • Teach the local community what investors would like to hear
    • Inform /educate local entrepreneurs about business financing through banks
    • Inform/educate local entrepreneurs about the benefits of insurance as an enabler to entrepreneurs

Facilities required at venues:

      • Central meeting place for generic discussions
      • Separate areas for Agriculture and Tourism opportunities –
        • Desks, seats and stationery for each business/government department
        • Timer for networking sessions between entrepreneurs and experts
      • Microphone/sound equipment
      • Bathroom facilities
      • Safe parking


Programme for each session:

    1. Welcome by MC from MDI
    2. Endorsement by local government
    3. Introduction to the financial institutions and investment experts present
    4. Explanation of procedure for networking

5. Brief Generic discussions regarding:

      • Role of Magaliesburg Business Forum in promoting community business in Magaliesburg
      • Business financing through banks
      • Insurance benefits for businesses
      • Department of Tourism opportunities
      • Department of Agriculture opportunities

6. Networking sessions

      • Speed networking: 5 minute briefings during which entrepreneurs identify their proposed business ideas and experts/local businesses/departments can clarify what next steps need to be taken to realise those proposals
      • Informal discussions between local business people and other participants
