The Ambassadors for Good programme was launched in Anglo American and De Beers Group to support employees volunteering for worthy social projects, backed by funding from the company, whilst working sustainably to support local communities. The programme afforded employees an opportunity to partner with an NGO or NPO to deliver on a corporate social investment project to add value and create a positive impact on the community.

Working sustainably sits at the heart of De Beers Group business strategy. It believes that business is a catalyst for delivering socio-economic benefit to local communities. To help De Beers Group achieve this,  the Ambassadors ​for Good (AfG) employee volunteering programme for colleagues from De Beers Group and Anglo American Group was launched for employees to volunteer and use skills to help social projects in their communities, backed by funding from the Anglo American Foundation.” (De Beers Group)

 As part of the Ambassadors for Good Project, a team from De Beers Group partnered with a local NPO; Making a Difference SA, who aims to deliver support to children and the youth through the following key objectives:

·       Welfare and humanitarian activities;

·       Education and developmental activities; and

·       Health care activities.

 These activities are achieved primarily through focused initiatives led by Making a Difference SA which delivers support to children, youth and other vulnerable member of our communities.   Over the past two years there has been a strong focus on youth empowerment through education. The collaborative effort between Ambassadors for Good and Making a Difference SA delivered on an exciting project on the 4th April 2019 in Magaliesburg to support 700 local school children from Mphe Tutu Primary School with a brand new pair of school shoes, a pair of new socks and a stationary pack.  The local community forums including volunteers from the Magaliesburg Development Team, Magaliesburg Child Welfare, SAPS, Bekker Hoerskool, Health Training Centre and the Fire Department also attended the event, volunteering their time and providing refreshments and treats for the children. The excitement and appreciation from the school children, local community and committee forums was overwhelming and all parties involved were highly appreciative of the project to support the school children with much needed supplies.
